Electronic Prescription Service

We use the Electronic Prescription Service.
This means we can send your prescription directly to your chosen pharmacy — no need to visit the Practice.

Please allow 3 working days for your medication to be ready.

To choose or change your pharmacy, call reception or use the NHS App.

Ordering repeat prescriptions

The easiest ways to order repeat prescriptions are:

  • using your NHS account (through the NHS website or in the NHS App)
  • submitting an eConsult request

Your NHS account can show you all your repeat medicine and dosage and you can choose the ones you need.

You can also:

  • fill out a repeat prescriptions request form
  • bring the paper form to the surgery, Monday to Friday from 8am to 6.30pm

We do not take repeat prescription requests over the phone or email.

Urgent advice: Emergency repeat prescriptions (out of hours)

You can go to the NHS 111 website: Emergency prescriptions - NHS 111 or call 111 to request an emergency supply of your medicine.

However, if you have already ordered a repeat prescription and the status is "Waiting for GP approval" or "Undetermined", please contact your GP surgery for more information.

If the status is "Order approved by GP", contact your nominated pharmacy or GP surgery to find out when the medicine will be ready for collection.

Collecting your prescription

You can usually collect your prescription from the pharmacy 3 to 5 working days after you have ordered it.

You will need to choose a pharmacy to collect your prescription from. We call this nominating a pharmacy.

You can change your nominated pharmacy at any time:

  • on the app or website where you order repeat prescriptions
  • at your GP practice
  • at any pharmacy that accepts repeat prescriptions

Questions about your prescription

If you have questions about your medicine, your local pharmacists can answer these. They can also answer questions on medicines you can buy without a prescription.

The NHS website has information on how your medicine works, how and when to take it, possible side effects and answers to your common questions.

Repeat Dispensing

What is Repeat Dispensing?
Repeat dispensing allows patients to get regular medication without needing a new prescription each time. A doctor can approve up to 12 months of repeats in advance, which is helpful for people with long-term conditions.

How to Use Repeat Dispensing
Talk to your GP to see if you're eligible. If so, they can set up electronic repeat dispensing (eRD), so you can collect your medicine without requesting a prescription each time.

For more information, visit the NHSBSA or NHS England websites.

Medication reviews

If you have a repeat prescription, we may ask you to come in for a regular review. We will be in touch when you need to come in for a review.

For more information about medication reviews, click here.

You can arrange a medication review in one of the following ways:

1. Submit an online request for a Medication review via our eConsult online system by clicking here

2. Call our reception team and ask to book a medication review appointment on 0203 435 4672.

How can my pharmacist help?

Don't wait for minor health concerns to get worse – Think Pharmacy first and get seen by your local pharmacy team.

As qualified healthcare professionals, pharmacists can offer advice on minor illnesses such as:

  • coughs
  • colds
  • sore throats
  • tummy trouble
  • aches and pains

Many pharmacies are open until late and at weekends. You do not need an appointment.

Most have consultation rooms where you can discuss issues with pharmacy staff in private.

What to do with old medicines

Medications contain active ingredients that, if not disposed of correctly, can have harmful effects on people, animals, and the environment. Flushing medicines down the toilet or throwing them in the bin can contaminate water supplies, harm wildlife, and pose risks to public health.

You can help protect both public health and the environment by ensuring that medications are disposed of responsibly.

Take it to the pharmacy you got it from or bring it in to the surgery.

Private Prescriptions from Consultants

What you need to know

Can it be changed to an NHS prescription?
Yes, but only if:

  • You were referred to the consultant by a GP at our Practice (or by another consultant via your GP), and

  • Your GP agrees with the treatment and is willing to take clinical responsibility for the medication.

What should I do?

  • Submit a request via our eConsult online service (choose “Administrative Help”).

  • Attach a copy of your private prescription.

  • If approved, your NHS prescription will be ready at your nominated pharmacy in two working days.

No internet access?
Bring it into us or post your request and a copy of the prescription to the Practice.

Need the medication urgently?
You can take the private prescription to any pharmacy and pay for it directly.
If you later get an NHS prescription, you may be able to claim a refund from the pharmacy, but this is your responsibility.

Note:
Keats Group Practice is an NHS Practice and we aim to provide equal care for all our patients.
